Crafting a contemporary user experience

Client: Australian Early Development Census
Role: UI Designer
Agency: Paper Giant
Year: 2024

We crafted a contemporary user experience for AEDC website users, while effortlessly guiding them through its features and content.

The Challenge

The existing AEDC website presented several challenges:

  1. Taxonomy: No single strategy of how content is organised and categorised

  2. Navigation: The site is not architected consistently, affecting how users navigate and search through the content

  3. Linkages: The website content is organised in silos, with a lack of connectivity across pages

  4. Content: The website content is bloated due to how the website was originally formed

  5. Audience: The core audience is dynamic, but the website does not respond to changing requirements and doesn’t highlight key information

Methodology

Understanding the Ideal User Journey

After speaking with audience groups, we mapped out a Future State User Journey to form the basis of our website redesign.

Testing a New Look

We conducted two rounds of user testing with functional prototypes to gather insights and feedback.

Prototype v.2

A Contemporary User Experience

We delivered a complete Design System in Figma, optimised for both web and mobile devices. Additionally, we created a Project Summary Report and How-To Guide for designing future webpages.

Impact

Through this redesign, AEDC was able to engage all audiences to access, understand, and use AEDC data and resources in order to improve the health and life chances of children across Australia.
